WEP Cracking

Today started off very normal just like every other stupid monday. Until i got to school and found out that we are learning about how to hack wireless networks. i wont bore you non-nerd friends with any specifics of what this means, so i will try to put it into terms so that you can understand how sweet it is. I am going to assume that most of you are familiar with what a wireless network is...i mean come one, it is freakin 2009 guys, seriously, who uses wires anymore. anyway, most wireless networks have some form of security to prevent unauthorized people to access the network. So, we are learning how to "crack" this security and find out the password of the network in order to "hack" into the network using a version of Linux that boots off of a USB flash drive. this is generally considered to be a very bad thing in the IT industry, it is reffered to as a threat or attack by a "bad guy", but it is also really freakin cool and fun. anyway, we are learning it because my professor says that to be able to stop a "hacker" you have to think like a "hacker". so thats what i learn in school. haha.

I dont anyone reading this is interested, but here are some links to a few sites that has some cool stuff on them about wireless "hacking".

On a side note, i was amout 2 mins away from seeing a crazy wreck on Page Ave. today. when i drove by there was on cop there and the people were both still in their cars. A ford taurus T-boned a toyota camery. on the drivers side. the way the cars were situated i have no clue how it happened, but i am assuming someone pulled out infront of someone. it wasnt by an intersection though, so i have no idea. That is why i absolutely hate driving in St. Louis, beacause of all the crazy lunatic drivers.

What is the world coming to?

So i had an epiphany today while i was on my lunch break. It wasnt one of the life changing ones or anything...it was just one of those things that makes you think about stuff that you normally would not. And actually in retrospect, i kind of really had 2 of them. the second of which i didnt even know i had until after i started to write this post. ok, so here it is, the first one anyway(well, the first one that i realized, it actually came after the second one in relation to time). I went to Subway to get some food, mainly because it is the closest and fastest place to go to eat during my 30 min break. Normally when i go there, i am the only customer there, and seem to be the first person that they have seen in a while. well today they were fairly busy. anyway, i had to wait a few mins until it was my turn to order, so i had some time to just watch and listen to the people in front of me in line and the employees. this is a key part of the second epiphany but i didnt know it yet. so i ordered my sandwich and then it was now my turn to pay. normally i pay with my debit card beacause i usually dont care much more than 5-10 dollars in cash on me. well met some friends at Fast Eddies last night to celebrate 2 of their birthdays, so i had some extra cash left over from that. So i figured i might as well use it. I handed her the money and instead of her counting the change out and handing it to me, the cash register had this little bowl type dispenser thing that your change dropped into. my change was 65 cents, but when i grabbed it, i noticed that there was about 50 cents to much. I asked the cashier if the people in front of me in line and paid with cash as well, she gave me a strange look and said yes they did. They were a young couple about my age, and they were filling their drink cups at the fountain. i walked up to the girl, a blonde girl with her hair braided on both sides of her head, and quite a few freckles on her face. I said, excuse me, but i think you left your change up here in the bowl. She gave me a confused look, and then said oh, ok, yeah, i think we did. I held my hand out to give it to her and she took it and said, you could have kept it, but thank you. That is when i had the first epiphany. What is the world coming to when someone is shocked and confused when a complete stranger gives them the change they forgot. I mean, really, it wouldnt have been like i was stealing it from them, because she didnt even know that she had left it up there. i could have just taken it and shoved it in my pocket and been 50 cents richer. However, that thought never crossed my mind, my first reaction was to return it. now, i know that it wasnt like I jumped out in the street and saved an old lady from being hit by a speeding car, or ran into a burning building and saved a baby; or am i by any means saying that i am a hero or anything like that. I am just saying that it is sad that people are shocked that someone actually did something nice and the right thing to do. so my moral of this ridiculously long post abount nothing, is that i think that it is ridiculous that it is commonly accepted that when people are given a choice between right and wrong, they almost always choose the wrong. The world needs more good doers. and that brings up my second epiphany, I think about how crazy big the world is. i mean how there are SO many bajillions of people that i have never met. seriously, it is ridiculous. So i just kinda realized that most people are reluctant to trust strangers because a majority of people are worthless. That sounds very negative of me to say, but think about it for a second. would you trust a complete stranger to watch your stuff for you while you did something real quick, or let them babysit your kids? ok, well that was really random, but there you go. take it or leave it.

All work and no play...

OK, so,I tried this whole blog thing once before a while back, but never really kept up with it. Now that I have this new job, i have some time to work on it. I figure it will mainly be just a lot of random things that I think about posting. We will see how it goes, i will probably just end up forgetting to keep up with it, or just saying screw this like i did last time. If so, oh well i guess. At least I killed a few hours while i was bored at work.

This past two months has been a little rough for me. I guess mainly because of the new job and the last semester of school. I am starting to feel the the pressure of all the stress. to make things worse, my dog that i have had for 13 years passed away, and on the same day a really good friend moved to Japan for a year. That was pretty hard to handle all at once. I am usually fairly good about not letting things stress me out, but that is because I have time to do things that help me relieve the stress. Such as tinkering around with my computers, or playing City of Heroes, or spending time with my parents and my dogs, and one of the most important, hanging out with my amazing friends. But...now that I am working 40 hours a week, and going to school almost 30 hours, i don't have time to really do anything. The only nights that i have off of work are Tuesday and Thursday, and those are my long days at school, so i don't get home until 4 or 4:30. When I do get home i usually am so tired all i want to do is take a nap, and if i do, then it usually means that i slip into a short term coma and wake up at about 3 or 4 in the morning. By the time i wake up my whole night is wasted. I mean, i am doing well in my classes, and have been told i am doing a great job at work, but i am starting to go crazy because i have no free time to do what i want. All work and no play, makes Brendan a dull boy.

Well, i think that this is enough for the first post, i dont want to scare away the 4 people that might actually even come read my blog. i know it is kinda boring right now, but i will spruce it up a little very soon. i have a few ideas cooking in the oven. ok, well, thanks for checking me out, and ya'll come back and see me, ya hear?!
